A dated 4-room unit opened up into one continuous living space, built around a young family's need for a proper home office.
The brief
The owners had outgrown the layout: a boxed-in kitchen, a study nobody used, and a living room that felt smaller than its floor area. They wanted an open plan without losing a dedicated work-from-home corner.
Our approach
We removed the non-structural wall between the kitchen and living room and re-routed the AC ductwork to allow it. The old study became a sliding-door nook off the living room instead of a sealed third bedroom — used daily, unlike the room it replaced.
The result
Living and dining now read as one 340 sq ft space. The client's main request — 'a desk we don't have to hide before guests arrive' — became the design's organising idea.
